Now Wait

. . . for coffee, for a train or bus, for concert tickets, or just stand in a line. Don’t look at your phone or a book. Just stand, observe, eavesdrop, or simply be. See if you go through the three phases: self-conscious, bored, and then totally fine and curious. People-watch and play the “what’s their story” game. Try to figure out people’s profession, family situation, or life story just by observing how they act. Or look at everyone’s shoes and pick your favorite pair, or count how many people are wearing the same color. You’ll be surprised (and a little sad) when the wait is over.
